Rachel and I discovered CrossFit in 2010, and it didn't take long for us to realize that fitness was about much more than lifting weights or completing a workout. It was about challenging ourselves, building friendships, and surrounding ourselves with people who inspire us to become better.
Our goal isn't simply to be fit today. It's to remain active, healthy, and strong enough to enjoy life with our grandchildren when we're in our 80s and 90s. We believe we don't stop exercising because we grow old; we grow old because we stop exercising. Fitness isn't something we do occasionally. It's a lifestyle we're committed to.
We also believe there's something special about working out together. The encouragement, accountability, and inspiration we get from others can push us beyond what we might accomplish on our own. Progress takes effort, discipline, and a willingness to keep showing up—even on the days when it's hard.
That's the community we want to create at The Box Cross Training Gym in Sullivan, Illinois: a place where people encourage one another, challenge themselves, celebrate accomplishments, and never stop striving to be better.
Guy has been involved in CrossFit and functional fitness since 2010, developing a passion for strength training, programming and helping others discover what they are capable of achieving.
As co-owner and head coach of The Box Cross Training Gym in Sullivan, Illinois, Guy oversees daily workout programming, group fitness coaching and the development of strength training programs. He designs the gym's daily workouts and a comprehensive 12-week weightlifting program, while coaching the majority of weekly group classes.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes proper movement, consistent progress and adapting workouts to individual abilities and goals. Whether someone is brand new to fitness or has years of training experience, Guy believes everyone deserves the opportunity to become stronger, healthier and more confident.
Guy's competitive career spans local team competitions to the highest levels of worldwide age-group competition. His accomplishments include first-place team finishes at the 2019 CrossFit XLT Turkey Bash and 2022 Festivus Games, the 2022 Legends Championship title, multiple top worldwide age-group rankings, and qualification for the 2024 CrossFit Games Age Group Championship.
A particularly meaningful milestone in Guy's competitive career was earning a four-year sponsorship with Mayhem Athlete, an organization associated with CrossFit Mayhem and Rich Froning. A four-time individual CrossFit Games champion and six-time team champion, Froning is one of the most accomplished athletes in the sport. That sponsorship represented meaningful recognition from an organization connected to one of CrossFit's most successful figures. Guy continues to be part of Mayhem Athlete today as a paying member. His years with the organization, along with his competitive experience, have broadened his knowledge and perspective, strengthening the programming, coaching and guidance he brings to The Box.
For Guy, however, The Box is about much more than competition. It's about building a community where people encourage one another, challenge themselves and discover that they're capable of more than they thought possible.

Rachel has a lifelong passion for fitness and an appreciation for the commitment it takes to continually challenge yourself and improve. Her fitness journey began with distance running, including nine marathons and numerous half-marathons. Nearly 16 years ago, she discovered CrossFit, which became another important part of her life and continues to shape her approach to fitness today.
Known for her incredible consistency, discipline and dedication, Rachel leads by example. Her commitment to staying active and continually challenging herself reflects the same values that Guy and Rachel hope to encourage in every member of The Box.
At The Box, Rachel leads coach-guided cross-training and group fitness classes, along with weightlifting sessions, helping members follow structured programming and build strength, confidence and fitness at their own pace. She believes fitness should be challenging, rewarding and enjoyable, and that everyone deserves an environment where they feel welcome, supported and encouraged.
For Rachel, it's never been about recognition or competition. It's about showing up, putting in the work, supporting others and continuing to become better.
At The Box, we believe fitness is about more than physical strength. It's about developing discipline, building confidence, supporting one another and continually striving to become better.
We believe everyone has the ability to improve, regardless of age, experience or starting point. Progress comes from showing up, putting in the effort and refusing to settle for less than what you're capable of achieving.
Our goal is to create a community where people encourage one another, challenge themselves and celebrate each other's accomplishments.
“I welcome you to the community of people who have decided that easy will no longer suffice.”
“When my body gets tired, my mind says, ‘This is where winners are made.’ When my mind gets tired, my heart says, ‘This is where champions are made.’”
“Fitness is not about being better than someone else. It's about being better than you used to be.”
